Who am I now? Day 9

I am chosen and beloved by my God.
Colossians 3:12-17
“Since God chose you to be the holy people whom He loves, you must clothe yourself with tenderhearted mercy, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience. You must make allowances for each other’s faults and forgive the person who offends you. Remember, the Lord forgave you, so you must forgive others.”
“And the most important piece of clothing you must wear is love. Love is what binds us all together in perfect harmony. And let the peace that comes from Christ rule in your hearts. For as members of one body you are all called to live in peace. And always be thankful.”

“Let the words of Christ, in all their richness, live in your hearts and make you wise. Use His words to teach and counsel each other. Sing psalms and hymns and spiritual songs to God with thankful hearts. And whatever you do or say let it be as a representative of the Lord Jesus, all the while giving thanks through Him to God the Father.”
Since we have been adopted into the family of God we are a new person with a new position and have a new agenda for our life. We are no longer the center of our world with our own ambitions. Our world view and responsibilities have been altered to encompass a bigger vision and its priorities. We are now a part of God’s story as participants in reconciling all of creation back to the Father, through His Son and now our big brother, Jesus.
As part of God’s family we now reflect who our Father is, just as our children reflect and represent us. Since the heart of God is filled with love it doesn’t represent Him very well when we gossip and slander people and have hate in our hearts, especially our brothers and sisters in Christ. Although we may not have had a good role model growing up we now have one with our Perfect Father, Jesus and Holy Spirit for how they treat us, respecting our choices.
Even though we have been adopted, given a new heart and a new spirit we are experienced at being who we were. As Christians we don’t invite Jesus into our heart and suddenly no longer carry any of the person we used to be with our old habits and behaviors. It is through the renewing of our mind, learning God’s truths, accepting His guidance for how He designed us to live that we replace who we used to be with who we now are on the inside.
To help us in this transition, God our Perfect Father and Jesus have provided us with the Holy Spirit, identical to Jesus in every way, living in us, to be our guide and comforter. He knows that we cannot represent Him well without His help. He loves us so much that He has provided us with an intimate helper, helping us grow into mature sons and daughters, being able to overcome the world in every area of life.
Our God, in the person of the Holy Spirit, has humbled Himself to live every moment of our life with us. Yet He still allows us to be headstrong and stubborn about living life our way. He patiently helps us transform into who we are in God's eyes when we spend time with Him and ask for His help. When we do, we receive His wisdom and knowledge, His strength and self-discipline as He encourages us all along the way in our life’s journey and we take on God’s character and nature.
