I am holy and blameless,
totally accepted and completely forgiven by my God.
Ephesians 1:3-8 (NLT)
"How we praise God the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us with every spiritual blessing in the heavenly realms because we belong to Christ. Long ago, even before He made the world, God loved us and chose us in Christ to be holy and without fault in His eyes. His unchanging plan has always been to adopt us into His own family by bringing us to Himself through Christ Jesus."
"And this gave Him great pleasure."
"So we praise God for the wonderful kindness He has poured out on us because we belong to His dearly loved Son. He is so rich in kindness that He purchased our freedom through the blood of His Son, and our sins are forgiven. He has showered his kindness on us along with all wisdom and understanding."
When we apply these verses to our own life, accepting them as God's truth for us today, the way we see ourselves and others begins to line up with how our God sees us. This takes time to do and does not happen overnight. Many of us have years invested in learning how to see ourselves the way the world has taught us.
As a Father, God sees us through the lens of mercy and grace giving us complete acceptance just as we are. When we receive mercy, we are not getting what we do deserve for our poor choices and wrong actions whether they were intentional or not. When we receive grace we are getting what we have not earned and don't deserve. Our God continuously draws us to Him through the kindness of His perfect love for us.
This is totally different than our adversaries and the world generally treat us. The world has taught most of us that our value is based primarily on our performance instead of our identity, who we are. The result of this is we are usually our own worst critic. We cripple ourself so that we become powerless and ineffective. This prevents our ability to enjoy who God made us to be, special and wonderfully made by Him. What God has meant for our good, our natural strengths, weaknesses and spiritual gifts, Satan has twisted into a way of measuring our worth.
Judging others has become a defense mechanism for our humanness so that we can feel better about ourselves. It is not hard to find someone if we look for those whose weaknesses are our strengths giving us the illusion that we are better than they are. When we do this we are puffing ourselves up the same way the father of lies does. We often forget that his tools are illusion and deceptions built on half-truths and lies. We are using his standard for determining value and worth and not our Creator and God. The lie he has sold in America is that we are supposed to be independent and self sufficient.
Only God sees the whole picture in truth. We can only see in part what is going on around us, as if seeing through a dark glass. We just don't grasp all that is going on and the work God is doing in us and around us. Each of us is made exactly the way God created us to be, no accidents or mistakes. We might make 1000 mistakes in a day. This does not make us an accident or a mistake. By divine design we are all created to need each other and God to be our best.
When we leave the judging to God and walk in the blessings and favor He showers us with life is good. The closer we become with our God the more we are able to receive the affirmation from Him the world is not giving us. We are learning how to walk in the light of His glory instead of seeing ourself and others through the eyes of our Accuser. It is in the intimacy of relationship that we can really begin to enjoy God and He gets to enjoy us.
The security we have from unconditional love and total acceptance frees us to make what we think are the right choices and actions based on the truths of God we know. This does not mean life is easy. It does mean we are more able to be the best we can be at the time throughout the day. Even though we live in a fallen world we are part of a bigger picture. God has chosen each of us to build His kingdom with Him on the earth that will outlast all others.
When we leave God's part to Him and focus on our part it is easier to let God lead us into a greater revelation of who He is.
