I share the DNA of Jesus. I am now of royal descent, a prince and heir.
Romans 8:14-17 (NASB)
“For all who are being led by the Spirit of God, these are the sons of God. For you have not received a spirit of slavery leading to fear again, but you have received a spirit of adoption by which we cry out, ‘Abba! Father!’ The Spirit Himself testifies with our spirit that we are children of God, and if children, heirs also, heirs of God and fellow heirs with Christ, if indeed we suffer with Him so that we may also be glorified.”
When we are adopted into the family of God we now have heritage with the King of the Universe. We are now part of an eternal family, a royal family with a Father who understands us better than we can ever know of ourselves. He not only knows us better, He has concern for our life in every area. Although we revere Him, He is always approachable. As His children, we have the ability to move God on our behalf. Our past no longer determines our future. Our God has a plan for us; a life lived to the fullest that is more rewarding than we can imagine.
Romans 8:26-30 (NLT)
“And the Holy Spirit helps us in our distress. For we don’t even know what we should pray for, nor how we should pray. But the Holy Spirit prays for us with groaning’s that cannot be expressed in words. And the Father who knows all hearts knows what the Spirit is saying, for the Spirit pleads for us in harmony with God’s own will.”
“And we know that God works all things together for the good of those who love God and are called according to His purpose for them. For God knew His people in advance, and He chose them to become like His Son, so that His Son would be firstborn with many brothers and sisters. And having chosen them, He called them to come to Him. And He gave them right standing with Himself, and He promised them His glory.”
The key to being sons and daughters of God is that He wants us to become like Him. He wants us to reflect His goodness, His compassion, His genuine concern for our well-being with the people who are around us. As a Father, He wants to share His joy and happiness, things that bring Him pleasure with us. As we get to know our God better we are able to take Him out of the box we have put our understanding of Him in. In fact, He will continue to break out of every box we put Him in as our relationship grows.
Consider communicating with a two year old. Their whole world revolves around them and we can only connect when we communicate from their perspective of life. When five years old, they are growing in the understanding that the world is bigger than they thought and we can communicate better with them. Our levels of interaction and communication have grown even more when they are twelve years old. All this time, as parents, we are letting them know who we are, helping them to understand themselves and that we are always wanting the best for them preparing them to succeed in life as an adult.
Our God is doing the same with us as He works in us through the people He puts in our path and our life circumstances. He is patient and never moves faster than we are ready for, regardless of what we think. (Thank you, God, for unanswered prayers.) The better we become at applying God’s truths and promises for us in our life, the better we understand our God and Father. When we lean on God, seeking His wisdom for us and accept it, we are growing up. This allows God to share more of Him with us and we actually connect, growing in awe and wonder as we do.
