God has created me;
special and wonderfully with a purpose in life.
My life is not an accident.
2 Timothy 1:7-9 (NASB)
For God has not given us a spirit of timidity, but of power and love and discipline. Therefore, do not be ashamed of the testimony of our Lord or of me His prisoner, but join with me in suffering for the gospel according to the power of God, who has saved us and called us with a holy calling, not according to our works, but according to His own purpose and grace which was granted us in Christ Jesus from all eternity.
The question that almost everyone wants answered is how do we find out what the individual purpose of our life is? What are we here to accomplish with the life that we have? In the Holy Bible it is said 365 times to “fear not” so that we can accept and understand that God is for us. Since we are all formed and made by God the answer revolves around God. We do not read the Holy Bible, pray, fellowship and worship with other believers because we have to. We do this to grow in understanding who we now are. The only way we can be in the center of the path of our purpose is with our God guiding us. God, the Holy Spirit, dwelling in us is comforting, guiding, encouraging and enabling us all along the way.
It is by submitting our heart and desires to God and His will for us that the quest for our purpose begins to bear fruit. We start by training our new heart and yielding our self-serving desires to our God through praise and worship, prayer and renewing our mind through reading the Holy Bible, surrendering our identity of self and not our personality. It is when we are applying God’s truths to our daily life that we begin to learn about purpose. It is important to remember that we are given new mercy and grace every day and when we misunderstand His direction, making a wrong turn our God has our back, even when He does not agree with our actions, we are His child, the apple of His eye and His treasure.
As our mind is being renewed with God’s truths for our life we are changing the way the world and life has taught us to think. Our personal relationship with our God is growing as we spend time with Him and we begin to see ourself and the world around us from God’s perspective. We are not able to ever be equals with our God. However, He does want us to understand Him better as He continually reveals more of Himself to us. This is when we begin to have a better understanding of purpose: the purpose that God has for man, the purpose that man has for God and the individual purpose that God has for our life.
Adam was given direction and purpose when he was mandated by God to be fruitful and multiply, to subdue the earth and rule it. Abraham was promised that through his seed all nations would be blessed, whoever blesses him and his descendants would be blessed and whoever cursed them would be cursed. In the Psalms, it says that He knew us before we were even formed in our mother’s womb. The Holy Spirit tells us through the Apostle Paul that we have been given the ministry of reconciliation through Jesus, restoring all of creation back to the Father. Throughout Scripture we are shown that each person has a part to play in God’s story.
In the process of discovering our purpose the beginning starts with our identity as a chosen son or daughter of God. The world tells us to “do” and then we will learn how to “be” who we are or want to be. In Scripture, God repeatedly gives us examples of how He wants us to learn how to be His child first. As God's child, we spend time with our heavenly Father, Jesus, our big brother and the Holy Spirit, our Mother, getting to know each of them. It is as we learn more about who God is instead of our wrong thinking leading us that we want to follow their example and truly live. We start wanting to be an obedient son or daughter. We learn through our relationship that we can trust our God and heavenly Father in all things. He is leading us; molding and shaping us into being the fullest expression of who created us to be and that He is our true provider.
It is when we are settled in our identity as a new creation, as God's chosen and forever child, that we are ready to move forward in what we are here for and how we are to accomplish our purpose in life. Our part is to press in to our relationship with our God and be open to receiving knowledge with understanding for our purpose in life as we yield to the Masters hand. It is as the vision for our life unfolds that we are to press forward in faith to pursue our purpose. God does not give us all the details since how we are to accomplish our purpose is His part and requires our faith and trust in Him.
Our God is faithful and true and wants us to be dependent on Him; this is our strength not our weakness. God has many good plans for each and every one of us, His chosen, perfectly formed and one of a kind child. For me, the best part of the adventure is that the biggest, strongest, smartest and bravest being in the universe is always with me. Whom shall I fear?
What is the Holy Spirit saying to me…?
How does today’s message apply to my life?…my beliefs?
